Dowslake Microsystems Corp., a leading smart network building block provider, announces it’s developing a hot pluggable transceiver amplifier which will be demonstrated at OFC in February in San Diego. Dowslake has filed a patent application with the United States Patent Office for its concept, design and applications.
Optical amplifiers are traditionally fixed component in optical transport equipment. They typically boost signals for either transmitting, or receiving path, named as either booster, or pre-amplifier respectively. Pre-amplifiers also suffer from transient pulses due to add/drop of signals such as a fiber cut.
With POPPY™ the hot-pluggable optical transceiver amplifier, at a size as small as 2x XFP, and utilizing XFP’s connection to the board controller, Dowslake offers both booster and pre-amplifier in one package while eliminating receiver transient.
The target market is high data rate Ethernet transport and switching. With the ever expanding need of 10G or 40G Ethernet equipment, a hot pluggable amplifier that can be used in the same way as XFP transceivers is a major break-though for saving cost on long reach transceivers, for capacity expansion in the field, or for extending the reach over hundreds of kilometers.
Dowslake Microsystems provides smart network building blocks for optical transport, Ethernet aggregation, and customer premises access. Main products include CATS - converged transport and access systems, MTS series carrier Ethernet switch, optical amplifiers, and TDM or Ethernet access equipment.
